Sessions’ Crackdown Working: Miami-Dade County Latest to Reject “Sanctuary City” Policy

Attorney General Jeff Sessions is not messing around. And it looks like his tough stance on “sanctuary cities”—where criminal illegal aliens are welcomed, American citizens not so much—is working. Border crossings are down exponentially. And under heavy pressure from Sessions’ Department of Justice— including threats of the loss of federal tax dollars—Miami-Dade County is the latest to drop its “sanctuary” status:

For the first time since it began extending the detentions of local inmates sought for deportation, Miami-Dade County received word from Washington that it won’t be treated as a community giving “sanctuary” to immigration violators.

An Aug. 4 letter to [Republican] Mayor Carlos Gimenez from the Justice Department said “there was no evidence” Miami-Dade was out of compliance with an immigration provision of a federal police grant worth about $480,000 this year to the county.

Shortly after President Donald Trump took office promising an immigration crackdown, Gimenez reversed a 2013 county policy and ordered Miami-Dade jails to begin honoring requests by immigration officers to extend the detentions of people in local custody who are also being sought for possible deportation.

Miami-Dade still wants the Trump administration to declare that Miami-Dade no longer belongs on the “sanctuary” list published by the Obama administration. “We’d like to have formal notification that we are no longer a sanctuary community,” he said. “That request is being made.”

You may recall Sessions’ announcement earlier this year regarding sanctuary cities:

And he reiterated that message just weeks ago in Philadelphia:

Naturally, the Perpetually Outraged are once again conflating illegal immigration with, you guessed it, legal immigration:

Gimenez’s change of policy sparked outrage from local immigration advocates, who accused the Cuban-born mayor of betraying Miami-Dade’s heritage of welcoming immigrants and advocating for the embrace of new arrivals to the country.

Meanwhile, Chicago—where the murder rate is skyrocketing, and criminal illegal aliens are shielded by its irresponsible, careless, federal-law challenged overseer, Mayor Rahm Emanuel—is suing the DOJ over the agency’s threat to withhold grants over the city’s refusal to dump its own “sanctuary city” status. Note that no moneys have been withheld, therefore the lawsuit is baseless, but hey, Rahm’s signalling just how virtuous he is, doncha know.

Emmanuel predicts other rogue city mayors will follow his misguided lead. Bring it on. Heck, let’s take it all the way to the Supreme Court, once and for all. I predict federal law would Trump the foolhardy Mayor Emanuels of the land.

Indeed. It’s far past time we stop ceding special rights to those whose first introduction to America is violating her sovereignty.

Thee perfect example of liberal-think. Here’s the truth: were illegals not here to begin with, they couldn’t harm American citizens.

My family moved out of Oregon—where we resided for about twelve years, and whose head-of-state is the front-runner for Worst Governor in America—in part due to its embrace of illegal aliens. Our county was a so-called “sanctuary” county, where American citizens were frequently harmed by illegal aliens. I witnessed how the policy coincided with the uptick in crime, how it did unspeakable harm to the innocent…

In a report that has national implications, almost half of the illegal immigrants held in Oregon jails in May faced serious sex crimes including rape, abuse and sodomy.

Of 969 illegals held in jail for that one month, 461 have been charged with the three sex crimes.

Most, over 83 percent, were from Mexico, according to Cross.

…and saw how it helped create a massive decrease in education funding. It helped cause the accompanying loss of popular courses, you know, the classes that make kids want to attend school, all while our school district encouraged more illegal immigration. Why? Because the children of illegal immigrants represented fifty percent more state funding per child than legal, English-speaking students.

While I welcome legal immigrants on their quest for the American Dream, I applaud the Trump administration’s crackdown on criminal illegal aliens and the cities that recklessly harbor them. The loss of one innocent American life is a price too high. I’m grateful for a White House, and a DOJ, who recognize that.

I still think one of the best ways to drastically decrease illegal immigration is to invade Mexico and turn a large portion of it into new US territories. (You would have to simultaneously pass a law preventing territories from getting federal welfare money.) Then you turn what are now basketcases into decent places.
