It’s On: Project Valour IT Marine Team!

when our country has a crisis either here or abroad, who do we call on to go in and take care of business? yep, you’re right – america’s 911 response team: the marines!

marines

have you heard of Project Valour IT? it’s a program through soldiers angels that provides laptops with voice activated software to our wounded soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen recovering at military medical centers all across america. generally these young men and women spend up to two years healing and undergoing physical therapy. their courage and determination is an inspiration.

we’ve heard of the amazing stories of these young men and women who, after a catastrophic war injury, often take up bungee jumping or skiing or some other extreme sport and that’s pretty awesome. but its during the physical healing period – the time they are confined to a bed – that can be the most difficult for them.

Project Valour IT provides them with a way – through IT – to escape the confines of their rooms and keep in touch with buddies, friends and family members. for many wounded vets, it’s a tangible reminder that they’re still part of the world outside Bethesda or Walter Reed hospitals. and it helps to remind them that there is life waiting for them even after being wounded.

Project Valour IT was developed by soldiers angels as a fun way to raise money for a very serious project. this year’s competition is from october 26 to november 11. the teams are purely for the sake of friendly competition, building on the natural inter-service rivalries (air force, navy, army and marines) of the us military. the team of bloggers that wins get ‘bragging rights’ of course, but the true winners are the wounded warriors who benefit from the results of the friendly competition. all funds raised go into the same Valour IT account and are used to assist any wounded service member in need of Valour IT’s support, regardless of his or her service branch.

as a marine family, blatherings blog is proud to be on the Marine Team. our team leader is my cotillion sister cassandra, whose own husband is a marine officer currently serving in afghanistan. if you look over there —-> you can see the other Marine Team members. and if you have a blog and would like to join us, go here right away. in fact, cassy has a great interview up today on her marine-hero-boyfriend that you gotta go read.

now that you know a wee bit about how wonderful Project Valour IT is, will you help us?

we know these are economically difficult times. but if you are able, please go here to donate any amount to Project Valour IT Fundraiser’s Marine Corps Team. you can have the confidence knowing that every dollar raised goes directly to wounded vets at military medical and VA treatment centers nationwide. you’ll also be able to see how Marine Team is doing toward our goal of $35,000 this year by checking out that cute meter widget in the sidebar!

btw, i’ll be sharing in the next couple of weeks terrific Marine hero stories, trivia, culture and training info, jokes, games, videos and stuff in blatantly shameful attempts to woo you to pass up that skinny irish latte several times this month and give that money to Project Valour IT instead. fair warning!

dancing marines!

you know this made you smile. now go hit the Valour IT meter over there —>

Oh so your charity just gives them a talking laptop and then calls the catastrophic injuries to their person good? Get the hell out of this country! You warmongerers have distroyed many, many lives.

  • Ken says:

“Oh so your charity just gives them a talking laptop and then calls the catastrophic injuries to their person good?”

Where does it say their injuries were “good”? What the hell are you babbling about, Fred?!?!?!

“Get the hell out of this country!”

    Not likely. Piss off.

  • PenniePan says:

This is a right wing charity is it not? I am not donating a penny to it because enough of my tax dollars go to the “government-run” war machine in this country instead of areas I would prefer it to go to. Once a limb is gone or eyesite or face is gone, what are you going to do? Send them a laptop? Good God the insensitivity.

  • Ken says:

“This is a right wing charity is it not?”

You truly are a vile human being, Pennie, without a doubt. This is a charity for wounded soldiers. It’s not left wing or right wing. Only a mental defective such as yourself would see it that way. You are so unable, like most of the left, to hide your hatred of the military. You despise the very people that guarantee your right to spew your completely inane and ignorant trash.

“Once a limb is gone or eyesite or face is gone, what are you going to do?”

Well why don’t you tell us, Pennie, from your own extensive experience?

Thanks for this post, Kate. I’ll be donating to it.

  • David says:

Day-em, I never thought a post about a charity that tries to appeal to the needs or desires or requirements of wounded soldiers would get such hatred spewed without reservation?!

    Some people! Sheesh.

Here’s what this charity does: “Project Valour IT provides them with a way – through IT – to escape the confines of their rooms and keep in touch with buddies, friends and family members. for many wounded vets, it’s a tangible reminder that they’re still part of the world outside Bethesda or Walter Reed hospitals. and it helps to remind them that there is life waiting for them even after being wounded.”

    And your against that??

    My oh my.

  • David says:

P.S. I’m going to remember the names of the posters on here who reacted with such hatred toward this cause.

    Pennie.

    Fred.

    You’ve lost LOTS of credibility.

  • Jane says:

It’s obscene what this country pays out in military costs. How many bombs and rockets and tanks and guns does it take to kill someone? These charities I’m sure are nice but how about if we work on getting rid of the cause of needing them in the first place? How many more must die (be maimed) all because of Bush?

Though I hope you meet your goal, I will not be donating to this. I have many other charities I give to on a regular basis.

  • kate says:

it’s really quite sad that some of you cannot recognize compassion and goodwill coupled with encouragement, hope, and a greatfulness for sacrifice.

there is nothing political — right or left — about what i wrote. it’s very sad that you can’t move out of the ugly little world you reside in to want the best for someone who gave up part of themselves for your sorry butts.

please don’t donate. really. it would be a mockery to their bravery.

  • David says:

Jane, your post is not too offensive : ) but I do want to say that what IS obscene is what the government confiscates from the U.S. citizenry in TAXES every YEAR!

They take way too much of our money and they use or PISS it away on programs – MOST OF WHICH are not even programs that the FEDERAL government should be involved in! >: (

At least the military & national security are two of the programs that the Feds are supposed to be involved with… not art, not health care, not reading, not etc… etc… etc…

(P.S. Let it be known that art, health care, reading, etc. are all very good things. Just NOT things that the government should be meddling with… with OUR tax dollars, even.)

  • micky says:

“How many more must die (be maimed) all because of Bush?”

I cant even begin to describe how stupid this statement is.
As if the way our military has operated since its creation was Bushs fault ?

Are you aware of how many have died due to leftist democratic security policies ?
Clinton somehow managed to get more soldiers killed in 8 years of peace than Bush did in 8 years of war. His deriliction of duty caused at least 3000 american civilians to be killed.
Are you aware that Bush saved millions of lives in S. Africa without a shot being fired ?
Stupidity has always been far more dangerous than any weapon

  • Ken says:

    “leftist democratic security policies”

Now THERE’S a contradiction in terms!!

  • micky says:

““How many more must die (be maimed) all because of Bush?”

In addition. As of yesterday this month has been the deadliest ever for our troops in Afghanistan.
yeah Ken, I honestly was contemplating attaching “or lack thereof” behind that.
    Missed it for some reason.

I guess she either forgot or never knew about WW2, fire bombing innocent Japanese citizens, locking up Japanese Americans in internment camps, nuking hundreds of thousands of innocents.
Thats when dems had balls, they won that war, but were also responsible for their fair share of mistakes. Those innocents in Japan died as a direct result of Americas intentional actions.
Not so much in Iraq since it was mostly Sunni and Shia that were killing each other.
Sh*thead went and gave a speech to a bunch of solar panels yesterday. Says hes waiting on the last few tidbits of intelligence before he makes a decision.
    Good luck finding anymore intelligence.

    Sad, really sad.
