Pentagon Tells Recruiting Centers “Close The Blinds” For Safety

The events in Chattanooga, TN last week made one thing abundantly clear to all Americans. Our military recruiting and reserve centers, along with the ROTC offices are sitting ducks for attacks. Chiefly because our men and women in the military are not allowed to carry arms while on duty. It was made graphically clear on Thursday, being unarmed is deadly when faced with a 20 minute weapons barrage by a terrorist.

As of yesterday afternoon it seems that our military commanders are proposing a bold new safety and security plan for all the recruitment centers …sort of.

Adm. Bill Gortney, head of the U.S. Northern Command, which oversees security for military facilities in the U.S., issued a directive Sunday night that calls for modest new security measures while the Defense Department considers more substantive steps to address threats to the facilities, officials said.
The security boost doesn’t authorize recruiters to carry weapons in the centers—a move that would require higher-level action. Instead, officials said they are directing hundreds of recruiting and reserve centers and ROTC facilities to increase surveillance and take basic steps such as closing blinds at the offices.

What in the H E Double Hockey Sticks is he thinking??!! I mean seriously, does he really believe that blinds like the styles pictured here:

Would’ve stopped THIS from happening?

recruiting center windowsOrdering our men and women to step up their surveillance is one thing. But telling them to close the blinds for safety against terrorists is one of the stupidest ideas ever and should immediately be rescinded.

And their other excuses aren’t holding water either.

The Army chief of staff said last week that recruiters are not armed because of the 1878 law that prevents the military from engaging in domestic law enforcement. He also said it would raise the possibility of accidents.

Oh good grief. I tell you, I’m going to get a concussion from all the idiocy that has been rolling around for the last few years. And this latest is just sheer unadulterated stupidity. The Army Chief of Staff obviously has very little faith in the rigorous training our military personnel engage in. Heck they have more consistent weapons training than many law enforcement agencies around the country do!

At least there are a few Governors and Americans who have not bitten into the tinfoil and are in fact grounded in reality. Americans are stepping up and guarding our recruitment centers themselves. Meanwhile several of our nations Governors, six in all, have issued orders providing for our National Guardsman to be armed at their offices. That will certainly help. However, our Army/Navy/Marine/Air Force/Coast Guard centers are still sitting ducks. Because you know…terrorism prevention means hand wringing instead of actually fixing the problem.

The symbolism of what the Pentagon and Adm. Bill Gortney are proposing is more than pretty poor as Eugene Volokh says, it is downright pitiful. Close The Blinds is a “stellar” protection measure will garner only one result; more Americans dead because too many in our Administration and evidently in our military refuse to face the truth. If we can’t count on our military leadership to grasp the reality of the terrorism we face, and they offer weak-sauce, pansy assed solutions; then when the next attack happens on our soil (and it will) who will we be able to count on?

Just when you think the residents of the 5 sided asylum can’t come up with any more stupid shite, they outdo themselves.

I’m surprised they didn’t come up with a “terrorist free zone” decal to put on the doors, right below the “gun free zone” decal.

    Good grief.

No surprise-they keep telling people at large to shut their eyes as they lay waste to what was once the United States. This notion has worked well for six years so they probably really do believe shutting the blinds is the solution for this problem.

Maybe closing the blinds is symbolic. Maybe it reflects on this Admirals decision to close his eyes to the problem. Clearing pinning a star on your collar does not mean the recipient is intelligent.
