“Pastor of The Resistance” Calls Independence Day “Christmas for Nationalists”

Pastor John Pavlovitz is not skimping on his words when it comes to this upcoming Fourth of July and Donald Trump. This is not the first time the former megachurch pastor used the President as his creative writing muse:

Pavlovitz penned this Dr. Suess-like creation. He took to his blog yesterday to pen a piece called “Born on the Farce of July“:

“It’s that time of year when hard-working folks wearing Old Glory swim trunks make an extra showy display of their love of country, beneath the bombast of roadside fireworks displays while Lee Greenwood’s “Proud to be An American” blares from pickup truck door speakers. It is a quick and easy red, white, and blue daydream for people whose daily lives often feel empty.

It is also Christmas for Nationalists; the season when their superiority and territorialism and fear of outsiders are more exploitable than ever by someone willing to leverage it. Unfortunately, someone is.”-John Pavlovitz

Pavlovitz has been dubbed the “Pastor of the Resistance” and was catapulted to success from a simple Tweet from brain child and singer, Katy Perry.

Silly liberals. Trump is no saint and not exactly the picture-perfect Christian but then again, who is? The point is, this holiday has nothing to do with Trump. Independence Day itself has little or nothing to do with WHO is currently POTUS. I wish I could say that Pavlovitz and his post ended with “Christmas for Nationalists” but the pastor continued on his soapbox:

But this is the place we sing about:
Our President publicly attacks the Free Press for speaking freely.
Black athletes are castigated for kneeling during supposed anthems to freedom.
The “tired, poor, huddled masses yearning to breathe free” are walled off, caged, and sent away without due process.
Native Americans have had oil lines driven through their sacred lands.
Young black men fear those charged with protecting and serving them.
Nazis are winning local elections and creating national policy.
Ill people are facing the choice between life-saving care and mortgage payments.
Gay teenagers are still the weekly target of brimstone preachers.
Muslims here aren’t the beneficiaries of any semblance of religious freedom.
Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness aren’t fully accessible to the poor, the differently-abled, the mentally ill, and the sick.

Hmm. Not sure what rock he lives under but the “free press” as we know it here in America is part of a big machine with an agenda. Black (and white athletes, too) are being “castigated” because they are getting paid handsomely and ARE privileged beyond belief. The “tired, poor, huddled masses” he talks about are breaking the law and have little or no regard for their poor children they send up through the desert to cross into America. And when it comes to “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness” not being fully accessible to the poor, “differently-abled”, the mentally ill and the sick who are currently here in this country legally, what, pray tell, do you suppose will happen when our country lets more people in without the proper path to citizenship? I guess folks who don’t buy-in to Pavlovitz’s philosophy are….(gasp)…here we go again…Nazis!

“….And so the anthems play and the flags wave and the bottle rockets ascend and the M-80’s go off—and Fascism quietly enters in the side door while everyone is distracted by the spectacle.”-John Pavlovitz.

The anthems will play. The flags will fly. Guys in their pick-up trucks will wear their red, white and blue swim trunks and blow stuff up, beat their chests and yell “‘Merica” or even worse, don a “MAGA” hat! Pavlovitz doesn’t stereotype much, does he?

“Today, in the United States, it is popular among self-styled ‘intellectuals’ to sneer at patriotism. They seem to think that it is axiomatic that any civilized man is a pacifist, and they treat the military profession with contempt. ‘Warmongers’ – ‘Imperialists’ – ‘Hired killers in uniform’ – you have all heard such sneers and you will hear them again. One of their favorite quotations is: ‘Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel.’ What they never mention is that the man who made that sneering remark was a fat, gluttonous slob who was pursued all his life by a pathological fear of death.

I propose to prove that that baboon on watch is morally superior to that fat poltroon who made that
wisecrack. Patriotism is the most practical of all human characteristics. But in the present decadent atmosphere patriots are often too shy to talk about it – as if it were something shameful or an irrational weakness. But patriotism is NOT sentimental nonsense. Nor is it something dreamed up by demagogues.

Patriotism is as necessary a part of man’s evolutionary equipment as are his eyes, as useful to the race as eyes are to the individual. A man who is NOT patriotic is an evolutionary dead end. This is not sentiment but the hardest of logic.”-Robert Heinlein, speech at the Naval Academy on patriotism, 1973.

You know what is a true “farce”? People using “Christianity” and the pulpit to shame others for their beliefs and for not helping enough while demanding 10% of their hard-earned money to do a book tour and speaking engagements for their own profit. That’s not Christianity, it’s Capitalism. The very thing most of these people hate, by the way. The Fourth of July is only a “farce” for baboons. And eventually a baboon climbs up a tree and shows its ass.

With that, Merry “Christmas for Nationalists” or, as we would rather say, Happy Independence Day. May God Bless America.

  • John C. says:

Heinlein was incomplete about the Samuel Johnson quote. What Johnson was referring to was the sort of politician who tries to deflect criticism of his policies by displaying excessive patriotism. We all know people like that, unfortunately.

“The devil can cite Scripture for his purpose.
An evil soul producing holy witness
Is like a villain with a smiling cheek,
A goodly apple rotten at the heart.
O, what a goodly outside falsehood hath!”

In fact, quite the opposite. Who is President should have little bearing on our love of country. It’s a prime reason we had a 4th of July in 1776.
But progressives don’t get that. (“First time I’ve been proud…”, “If so-and-so wins, I’m leaving”, etc.)

Nazis are winning local elections and creating national policy.
Where?!? (Oh, and how are they creating national policy if they’re winning local elections?)
Egad, there’s too much to fisk in that. I’d be here all day. But…
    the mentally ill
WTF? We’re now committed to making sure mentally ill can “realize their dreams”? Have you ever seen their dreams? Oy vey.

and Fascism quietly enters in the side door while everyone is distracted by the spectacle
Oh no, it entered rather noisily in 2009.
(OK, really, it’s communism. Or some mash-up of the two. Largest difference is whether you open or close your fist when you salute the monarch, anyway.)

Pavlovitz doesn’t stereotype much, does he?
WHAT?! You were NOT planning on doing those things? For shame on you, Lisa!

    as useful to the race
Oh noes! See, you’re a racist!
(And, yes, I know that RAH was speaking of the human race. Some people, though….)

Kudos, and extra points for quoting RAH. Now add in some Sarah A Hoyt on Usaians:
But America is something else: it is a country founded on loyalty to the constitution, on belief in self government and on what Heinlein called the immortal poetry of the declaration of independence.

We are sure, a nation of soil and culture, but we’re also a nation of belief.

    America? Fuck Yeah!

  • GWB says:

A suggestion, ladies, for the 4th of July (Wednesday):
Do a post each on the entire text of the Declaration of Independence and of the Constitution of the United States of America*. Just post the entire text, without comment, and maybe link a youtube of someone reading it out loud.
If you’re ambitious, post a few other great bits (like Patrick Henry’s famous speech, Washington’s Farewell Address or his Inauguration Speech, etc.) in another post.

(* Constitution will take some formatting because of the strike outs due to amendments.)

    • Scott says:

Could do some of the Federalist Papers (specifically the ones giving background on the intent of the 2nd Amendment)
