Obama-Romney Debate #3: Details, Where to Watch Online, What to Watch For

DOOM. It’s just 15 days before Election Day and tonight is our last chance to see the Barack Obama and Mitt Romney cage match at the third and final presidential debate, before voting on November 6th. This time around, it will be all about Foreign Policy issues and Obama’s gonna get spanked!

You’ll remember that during the second presidential debate, Barack Obama expressed outrage that Romney would question his administration’s attempt to pin the deaths of Ambassador Chris Stevens and three others on a “spontaneous” Libyan mob in reaction to an anti-Islamic video posted on YouTube.

“Any suggestion that anybody in my team, whether the secretary of state, our U.N. ambassador, anybody on my team would play politics or mislead when we’ve lost four of our own, Governor, is offensive,” said Obama.

I wonder how many questions will somehow lead back to Benghazi? Hopefully a lot. If I was Mitt Romney I would hammer him early and often on this subject. He is vulnerable on this and I want Romney to demand the truth about what happened.

The topics have been published on the debate commission’s website:

America’s role in the world
Our longest war – Afghanistan and Pakistan
Red Lines – Israel and Iran
The Changing Middle East and the New Face of Terrorism – I
The Changing Middle East and the New Face of Terrorism – II
The Rise of China and Tomorrow’s World

According to the CPD the format will have six 15-minute time segments, each of which devoted to a topic selected by the Moderator. The Moderator will start each segment with a question and then each candidate will have two minutes to respond. After the two minute responses, the moderator will use the remainder of the 15-minute segment to allow a discussion on the topic.

So, what to look for in tonight’s debate:

Romney has repeatedly characterized Obama’s foreign policy approach as “leading from behind” and a non-stop apology tour. Obama’s sole foreign policy? He killed Bin Laden. *insert eyeroll here*

In my opinion, Monday’s debate will have a heavy emphasis on the Arab World. Libya, and the death of US Ambassador Christopher Stevens and how the Obama administration lied bungled about all the events surrounding the attacks, will most certainly be brought up. The Libyan attack is a huge weakness in the Obama foreign policy record.

Expect Obama’s handling of Afghanistan, his questionable response to the Syrian uprising, the drone attacks in Pakistan, diplomatic relations with Egypt, the impact of the Arab Spring and his administrations relationship with Israel to be covered extensively.

There should be plenty of opportunity to discuss policy issues including the closing (or not) of Guantanamo Bay, the NDAA, the Patriot Act, and foreign aid, the role of the UN, NATO, and defense spending.

The discussion will also include Iran and its nuclear ambitions and trade tensions with China. Even though the focus will be on international issues you know that both Obama and Romney will find a way to bring their arguments around to domestic affairs like jobs. This is a lot to talk about and I expect it will be a fast-paced debate.

Here are The Details for the 3rd debate tonight:

The debate officially starts tonight at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT. It will last 90 minutes, and it will be moderated by Face the Nation moderator and CBS News Chief Washington Correspondent. The event will be held at Lynn University in Boca Raton, Florida, and will be broadcasted by numerous lamestream media TV networks and cable TV stations around the country.

If you want to watch Debate #3 online, Fox News will be streaming the debate on its site and will have a fun collaboration with Twitter during its post-debate coverage. Hulu will also have live feeds from ABC, Fox and The Wall Street Journal, including pre- and post-debate coverage by talking heads.

If you want to play The Debate Drinking Game, they’ll have a less serious take on the rhetorics used during the event. Also, Cloture Club has their “3rd and Final Drinking Game” up for the Foreign Policy debate as well. They’ll be live tweeting the debate too so you can follow them at: @ClotureClub. For the best fun though, Vodkapundit will be drunk blogging the debate, which is always ridiculously epic.

After the debate, you’ll be able to find a complete transcript here. And to set the mood for tonight, a video. Enjoy!
