Obama to ICE: Executive Amnesty or Else

In a town hall style meeting on MSNBC, Obama talked about his executive amnesty and the role that he expects Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents to play in its implementation.  The short version is:  Do what I say, or else.

“Until we pass a law through Congress, the executive actions we’ve taken are not going to be permanent; they are temporary. There are going to be some jurisdictions and there may be individual ICE official or Border Control agent not paying attention to our new directives. But they’re going to be answerable to the head of Homeland Security because he’s been very clear about what our priorities will be,” Obama said, according to a partial transcript provided by the pool reporter.

“Not only are we going to have to win this legal fight.. but ultimately we’re still going to pass a law through Congress. The bottom line is I’m using all the legal power invested in me in order to solve this problem.”

“If somebody’s working for ICE … and they don’t follow the policy, there’s going to be consequences to it.”

The “law” he made was not temporary, it was illegal.  He does not have the authority under the Constitution to implement amnesty.  (Before you yell about all the other Presidents who have done it, let me assure you that they were dead wrong too.)

As for the “bottom line,” he’s not using “all the legal power” he has; he’s using power he was never intended to have.  The problem, of course, is that the average citizen has no idea what the limits of the Presidency are, and therefore powerless to do anything about it.  Meanwhile, this joke of a White House resident rolls right over those limits, institutes his own agenda, and then blatantly threatens those federal agents who would dare defy him in favor of the Constitution and the idea of American sovereignty.

The real question is what we’ll do about it.  But never mind that…our favorite show is on.

I think I feel my head about to explode-again-at the insanity that comes out of DC.

I wish this emperor that’s been foisted upon us would start paying some consequences for the six nightmarish years of lawbreaking and other things he has done. THAT would be refreshing and sorely needed!

Maybe if/when the Counter Cultural Revolution happens he’ll be put on trial for crimes against the Constitution. One can only hope as hope is all we seem to have for now.

I agree with you. However, if memory serves, thay went through congress, not around congress.

The president used the military as an example of how orders must be followed. Anyone who has served learns in basic training that in order to be binding, an order must: 1) Be within the authority of the person giving the order. 2) Not violate any laws. 3) Be clearly understood. So, not all orders must be followed in the military. President Obama’s order to ICE is counter to existing laws.

Obama just cannot seem to do anything legally…..ever!! For a lawyer, he is immensely just-plain-wrong!!!
