Obama finally releases his long-form birth certificate

Well, the wait is over. Barack Obama finally released his long-form birth certificate, proving what most sane, rational Americans already knew: he was born in Hawaii. Not Kenya. Birthers everywhere are devastated.

President Obama released his original birth certificate Wednesday, saying the controversy surrounding the issue had become a “sideshow.”

“We do not have time for this kind of silliness. We’ve got better stuff to do,” said Obama.

The surprise release follows recent and sustained remarks by businessman Donald Trump, among others, that raised doubts as to whether the president was born in the United States.

“Over the last two and half years, I have watched with amusement. I have been puzzled with the degree with which this thing just kept going,” Obama told reporters Wednesday.

Responding to the development, Trump said, “I have accomplished something nobody else has accomplished.”

“I want to look at it, but I hope it’s true,” he told reporters in New Hampshire. “He should have done it a long time ago. I am really honored to have played such a big role in hopefully getting rid of this issue.”

Will this make the birther movement finally die? Probably not. Some of them will accept it and move on, but many of them are too heavily invested in their conspiracy theory du jour. Now some of them are whining about the fact that Obama waited so long to release it, which is apparently “proof” that it’s a fake. But as Ed Morrissey points out, why on Earth would he release it earlier? Not releasing it meant that the birther movement thrived, which meant that his opponents looked like crazy pants conspiracy theorists. Some birthers are also claiming that he still doesn’t qualify as a natural-born citizen, because his father wasn’t born here (not true, by the way).

What really should happen now is that this issue will finally die, as it should have years ago. There are plenty of things to criticize Obama for without having to make up phony scandals.

  • My mother likes to throw out the “he isn’t American!” card every time we talk about him. So annoying. My response always revolves around her providing me with proof… and since neither President Obama nor my mother are capable of doing so, well, what’s the big deal? Can we just let it die?

It wont, though… it never will. You will always have those “crazy pants” conspiracy theorists (I thought that term was great, by the way) who, years from now will still believe that President Obama wasn’t born in the US. In my opinion, it’s kind of sad that we have to resort to that… aren’t there enough things to dislike about the guy already? Do we really have to resort to the location of his birth?? Come on.

Well after Popular Mechanics thoroughly debunked the 9/11 conspiracies that all died down. Oh. Wait. Sadly conspiracy nuts will never be persuaded by proof, but instead will double down and just poke holes in anything just so they can further their obsession. At the very least it will shut up the “I know he was born in Hawaii but I still want to see the birth certificate because it probably has some terrible secret it on it” crowd. Mostly.

  • He already provided the official birth certificate. That was legal evidence of birth in Hawaii. Thousands of people use it to prove birth in the USA every year. The long-form birth certificate that he has just provided is IN ADDITION to the official birth certificate, which is the one that he already provided. And three Republican officials in Hawaii confirmed the fact on the official birth certificate. That was sufficient, more than sufficient. Obama has now provided both the official and the original birth certificate. Obama was never a citizen of Indonesia, as a telephone call to the Indonesian Embassy in Washington will confirm. It will also confirm that Obama never had his name legally changed while in Indonesia, nor was he adopted. So, his name was and continues to be Obama.

Mr. Obama did very well i hope now Donald Trump will calm up i think this matter will ends with this action (Release of Obama’s birth certificate).

  • Bill says:

I get the same results as he does using the PDF from the White House web site.
If you have Adobe Illustrator you can see for yourself.

Why would they paste the parts together instead of just scanning the original.Seems they want the controversy to continue.
And this is the most tech savvy administration in history ?
