Obama Administration Wants to Display the “Softer Side” of Our Police Force

One would think that our President has better things to do than focus on making a fashion statement, but never worry, POTUS will find every and any reason he can to deflect attention on serious issues at hand (say, ISIS making bigger gains in Iraq) to focus on what is wrong with us as Americans–once again, (I know, big surprise)–taking aim at our police forces.

In an address to law enforcement and youth in Camden, New Jersey on Monday, Obama announced that the administration would ban federal transfers of certain types of military-style gear to local police departments, as a response to incidents that have “frayed trust in communities across the country.”

“We’ve seen how militarized gear sometimes gives people a feeling like they are an occupying force as opposed to a part of the community there to protect them,” Obama said during remarks in Camden, N.J. “Some equipment made for the battlefield is not appropriate for local police departments.”

James Pasco, executive director of the national Fraternal Order of Police is fighting back on these decisions, stating the Obama administration is politicizing the safety of our law enforcement officers and that “the vast majority of the equipment that civilian law enforcement gets from the military is administrative stuff or defensive in nature.”

The Obama administrations suggestions?  “Softer” uniforms and a more “approachable stance”, as Brian Kilmeade reported on Fox News’ The Kelly File last night.

“They’re concerned about the helmet. They’re concerned about the shield. It’s sending the wrong message.”–Brian Kilmeade

Part of this initiative is the implementation of the use of body cameras to encourage more transparent interactions between police officers and civilians– a project in which the Justice Department has provided a grant of $20 million-– $17 million will be devoted to “the purchase of body-worn cameras, $2 million for training and technical assistance and $1 million for the development of evaluation tools to study best practices.  But, that’s not all–storage fees and extra staff needed to manage the video data could cost upwards of $2.6 million per annum.

Who will be paying for all of this, you ask?  Good question.

“The idea is to make sure we strike the right balance of providing equipment that is appropriate and important, while at the same time put standards in place that give a clear reason for the transfer of that equipment, with clear training and safety provisions in place.” Cecilia Muñoz— White House director of domestic policy.

And furthermore, how much is a “task force” to redesign a new “universally friendly, non-discriminatory, warm-and-fuzzy Andy-Griffith-meets-Barney the fluffy purple dinosaur” going to cost taxpayers?  Now helmets and shields are sending the “wrong message”and encouraging rioters to riot?  The guarded stance of a police officer also brings on feelings of hostility towards law enforcement, don’t you know? And who’s going to design this get-up?  Perhaps BHO wants to get FLOTUS involved and she can commission one of her personal favorite couture buddies to fashion up something in a pretty indigo shade with some silk chiffon flowers or something.  Because local law enforcement officials don’t need a shield or helmets for this:

Or this…

….Or this even:

Just like Obama doesn’t need security detail like this:

…or this….

…or even this:

Because we can all just hug it out.  You know?  Engage these folks in a dialogue about why throwing a rock at that police officer is just not a good idea.  Tell them they’re making “bad choices”.  And have the video backing up the fact that the police officer told them not to make bad choices–in a gentle, loving and kind manner.  Now that we’ve solved that battle, we can perhaps work on the fashion statement rioters are making.  Let’s make them look a bit “softer”, shall we?  Some rainbow-spouting baseball bats?  Rocks made of cotton candy?  An outfit like Hamburglar’s, maybe?

You’ll just have to make sure you pay them the $15 dollar minimum wage!
