The tabloid style newspaper the New York Daily News has circulation problems. Adweek reported last November that the circulation is waaaaaay down. Low numbers and an absolute disdain for average Americans is probably the best excuse for the utterly reprehensible racist article today by Shaun King. The title is:
“KING: Conservatives don’t hate a golfing President, but they hated an uppity negro golfing President”
Of course, the liberal Mr. King and the Daily News think it was racism that made Conservatives hate President Obama golfing. Because:
Let me say straight from the start that from a purely aesthetic point, I would rather look at a picture of President Obama golfing than President Trump golfing. Because:
What really frosted my cookies was the use of “uppity negro” in Mr. King’s post. It was in both the title and the body of the post.
More than ever, it’s clear that conservatives never really had a problem with a golfing President, what they hated seeing was a black golfing President. I also think this was the subconscious message that Trump was pulling on throughout the campaign trail to his almost exclusively white audiences.
The racist caricature of the “uppity negro” has deep roots in this country. Uppity negroes have irritated white folk for over a hundred years. In its most simple form, the uppity negro is a black man or woman who enjoys anything other than working from sunup to sundown. Particularly, an uppity negro is a black man or woman who enjoys creature comforts in life that some whites may not yet be able to afford to enjoy — say a musical, a play, fine dining, or, you guessed it, a round of golf.
Now, I am not going to swan onto my fainting couch and pretend that I have never heard that phrase before. I have. I have heard it used 40 years ago by both black and white folks. The same folks who told me that I was “getting above my raisin'” by wanting more (of everything). That’s probably why I had such a visceral reaction to the phrase.
Near as I can tell Obama is no more uppity than I am getting above my raisin’. Plus, I know lots of working class folks who golf. And, here is a shocker, I know black folks who go camping. Not, that I would, but they do.
See, that is another problem with liberalism. We must all stay sorted and slotted. I am a deplorable racist and Obama is an “uppity negro”. As long as we stay in our assigned slots in life, liberals like Mr. King and the folks at the New York Daily News will have their social justice soapbox and don’t have to look at their own bigotry.
Former President Obama went yachting with his friends this past weekend. Since he is not pursuing his feckless foreign policy, shoving his healthcare down our throats or killing American jobs, nobody said a word. Private citizen. Enjoy. From the article:
And if Obama was anything to the average white bigot, he was just that — the quintessential uppity negro, with his Harvard Law degree, and his beach trips to his home state of Hawaii. Over and over again, white conservatives obsessed over things like the exact costs of Obama’s family vacations. Now though — with tons of money being spent to protect the entire Trump family as they gallivant all over the world, for business or pleasure, those same critics are now silent.
Again, Mr. King, it’s not about Harvard, Hawaii or golf. It was about the fecklessness. After the beheading of journalist James Foley, Obama golfed. Instead of attending the funeral for Major General Harold Greene, KIA Afghanistan, 8/2014, Obama golfed. If Obama had gone to the funeral and then golfed, no problem. It was the fecklessness.
If Donald Trump drone strikes an American citizen and goes golfing or fundraising, I will be screaming in a post immediately.
The fact that Barack Obama was a feckless, incompetent ideologue had nothing to do with his race. It’s not about his race or golf. Shaun King will never believe that. Shaun King needs to believe all white folks are racists in order to protect his own bigotry. That is a shame.
