Network to Roll Out Catholic-Bashing Program Written by Gay Activist

While the pundits and talking heads of the mainstream media were cluck-clucking over Pamela Geller’s Mohammed cartoon contest, lecturing us on how we shouldn’t insult Muslims, ABC-TV was getting ready to roll out a midseason program bashing Catholics — and, by extension, traditional Christians.

Entitled The Real O’Neals, the program focuses upon an Irish Catholic family which includes a daughter who pockets money intended for charity, a son who is anorexic, parents who are divorcing, a priest who drives a Lexus, and the main character, a gay son — of course. (ABC really got a two-fer with this program: not only did it smear Catholics, but the Irish as well, who, like the rest of us of northern European extraction, are the whitest of white people.)

Here is the trailer. It may not be safe for work, probably not safe around older relatives, and most certainly not to be played within proximity of impressionable children.

So who is the brainchild behind this raunchy opus?

Enter gay activist Dan Savage. If you are unfamiliar with the name, let me say that there are gay activists, and then there is Dan Savage, who belongs in an entirely different category. I say ‘category’ rather than ‘class,’ since the name ‘Savage’ and the word ‘class’ should never be used in the same sentence.

Here are some of the execrable Savage’s greatest hits:

  • When conservative Christian Gary Bauer entered the presidential race in 2000, Savage ‘volunteered‘ at his headquarters during the Iowa primary in an effort to sicken Bauer. Savage had developed the flu, and set about licking doorknobs and office equipment, hoping to affect Bauer and staffers. He wrote:

I go around the room licking doorknobs. They are filthy, no doubt, but there isn’t time to find a rag to spit on. If for some reason I don’t manage to get a pen from my mouth to Gary’s hands at the conference, I want to seed his office with germs, get as many of his people sick as I can, and hopefully one of them will infect the candidate. I lick office doorknobs, bathroom doorknobs. When that’s done, I start on the staplers, phones, and computer keyboards. Then I stand in the kitchen and lick the rims of all the clean coffee cups drying in the rack.

  • In a 2003 feud with Republican Rick Santorum over gay rights, Savage initiated a campaign among his followers to develop a neologism for the word ‘santorum;’ the ‘winning’ word referenced anal sex. He later Google-bombed Santorum’s name with the neologism, causing Iowa voters in 2012 who googled the name of the Republican candidate to find the sexual word instead.

  • This past March, when Republican presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson stated his belief that ‘being gay is a choice,’ Savage invited Carson in an open letter to “suck my d*ck.”

Apparently President Obama doesn’t have a problem with Savage’s bullying antics. In 2011 the activist — who in the same year appeared on Real Time with Bill Maher saying about Republicans, “I wish they were all f*cking dead” — was  invited to the White House with his partner to participate in Obama’s “Pride Reception.” Here they are with Vice President Joe Biden.

ABC is, of course, free to produce and broadcast this program. Likewise, people who despise this sleaze are free to petition the network to cancel it. CNSNews.com developed a petition that it linked at its Twitter site:

Let’s hope this garbage is culled from network broadcasting by natural free market forces of TV viewers who refrain from tuning in the program, and advertisers who choose to spend their dollars on other programming.

Growing up in small-town Indiana, now living in the Kansas City metro, Kim is a conservative Midwestern gal whose heart is also in the Seattle area, where her eldest daughter, son-in-law, and grandson live. I’m very picky about what I watch on regular network TV….just GRIMM & Blue Bloods….there’s so many great cable channels with educational, historical, instructional shows on: RFDTV, Travel, FOXNEWS, weather channel. Sadly, some of the cable channels, that used to be good, have fallen for the “reality show” crapola. Personally, I prefer to turn the tv off and read. We don’t even watch our local news, they just keep repeating the same things over&over&over during the half hour, plus, everything is so “urgent”, mountains out of molehills. We watch the local Fox channel for our evening news.
