Melania Trump Is A Twenty-first Century Style Icon

Earlier today Melania Trump, First Lady of the United States of America, was in Brussels, Belgium, and tonight she is in London, England. Wherever our First Lady goes, and whatever she does, she pretty much looks fabulous. The First Lady is a style icon.

What is a style icon? The late Yves Saint Laurent once said, “Fashion fades, style is forever.” Meaning you don’t have to slap the latest thing on your back to have style. You should wear your clothes and never have your clothes wear you.

Many style icons came from Hollywood during the studio system. Studio system founder Louis B. Mayer on grooming the actors:

“A star is made, created; carefully and cold-bloodedly built up from nothing,” said Louis B. Mayer. “All I ever looked for was a face. If someone looked good to me, I’d have him tested. If a person looked good on film, if he photographed well, we could do the rest.” Star making could include changing the actor’s name; coaching the actor in diction, posture, horseback riding, dancing, singing, fencing, and more; physical enhancement with makeup, hair styling and hair replacement; fitness training and that most Hollywood of fixes, cosmetic surgery.

Models like Twiggy in the 1960’s were style icons, especially for teenage girls. In the 1970’s and 80’s, Iman was a style icon and had a true fashion sense.

We haven’t had a First Lady as a style icon since Jackie Kennedy Onassis. Sorry, I loved Nancy Reagan, but not a style icon. She followed fashion, but wasn’t stylish, for me. The Bush’s and Hillary Clinton, not fashionable or stylish. Michelle Obama. In my humble opinion, she got very, very bad fashion advice. She occasionally got it right, but not often.

Now, we have Melania Trump. Yes. Thank you. The video below was made before Donald Trump was inaugurated as the 45th President of the United States. Although her fashion’s changed over the years, Melania Trump’s style has not changed.

Melania Trump’s style is usually simple and uncluttered. It compliments her long, lean look. She prefers the Christian Louboutin stilettos that are not really practical for most human beings, but then, she doesn’t have to walk long distances. Remember when Manolo Blahnik shoes were all the rage because of a certain television show? Most uncomfortable shoes I have ever worn. F’reals.

Your body. Your feet. Know what works for you. No pajamas in public (unless you have a sick child or something) and no Kim Kardashian looks. You could do a lot worse than look to First Lady Melania Trump as a style icon.
