Media Bias: Trayvon Martin Glorified, Baby Antonio Santiago Ignored

Media Bias: Trayvon Martin Glorified, Baby Antonio Santiago Ignored

Unless you live under a rock, you’re aware of the Not Guilty verdict reached in the second degree murder trial of George Zimmerman. So I won’t bore you with the details. Nor will I jump on the bandwagon of exploiting a dead American like the mainstream media, and the Obama Administration, have been engaging in ever since the fateful night when Trayvon Martin died. I will, however, call out their hypocrisy in cherry picking what killings to report, and which to ignore, or as many of us would argue, actively suppress.

I suspect you’ve never heard the name Antonio Santiago. Which would not be surprising since the mainstream media barely mentioned his name. In case you don’t know, Antonio was a 13-month-old baby who lived in Brunswick, Georgia. That is, until two teenaged boys became his judge, jury, and executioner.

13-Month-Old Antonio Santiago, Killed During a Failed Robbery
Thirteen-Month-Old Antonio Santiago, Shot and Killed During a Failed Robbery

After attempting to rob the infant’s mother, Sherry West, who had nothing to offer them, the two boys allegedly shot little Antonio, in the face, while he sat in his stroller, to the horror of his mother whom they also shot and wounded. Seventeen-year-old De’Marquis Elkins was charged as an adult with first-degree murder. The other boy, a 14-year-old, has not been identified because he is a juvenile, reported the Blaze. Now why has this story, which happened weeks ago, not garnered the raw outrage and nation-wide protests that the Martin case has, you may ask? I’ll give you three guesses, and the first two don’t count.

While I believe a person’s race is generally irrelevant in most instances (I’m a staunch content-of-character gal), in this case it is, at least from a blatant media bias and race hustler perspective. You see, the two young men who callously took the life of that beautiful little boy were, incidentally, black. In our current culture of exploitative, agenda-pushing, Trayvon Martin glorifying media, a murdered white infant gains them nothing. His name wasn’t even worth a mention on most airwaves. But Trayvon Martin does. His tragic death buys them racial division; it allows them to point fingers at their fellow Americans and label them “racist;” and it provides relevancy, and perhaps even wealth—Alveda King believes they may be receiving payment—to race pimps like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. While they remain silent on the deaths of scores of young blacks, killed by other blacks, in cities like Chicago, the race hustlers exploit the Trayvon Martins of this world to push their selfish agenda and social justice, unwilling to discuss the real reasons, like absent fathers and a lack of quality education, why inner city youth are being decimated. They don’t desire an honest discussion, nor do they desire resolution, for that would leave them insignificant.

It is a sad, sick, upside down world we are living in today. Those who call themselves the leaders of our nation have willingly engaged in disgraceful race-baiting from Day One of the Zimmerman-Martin tragedy, while they continue to ignore cases like baby Antonio’s. And it has already had direct, severe consequences. Which begs the question: Do they really care about the deaths of every precious child in this country, or are those deaths but a means to an end, tragedies to be exploited, like the Sandy Hook survivors, in order to “fundamentally transform America?” I think I know the answer. And the evil it implies devastates me.

As I see it, we are witnessing reverse bigotry via Eric Holder’s Department of (In)Justice where Black Panther Party members are not prosecuted for intimidating voters, but a light-skinned man who was acquitted by a jury, and found not to have practiced racism by the FBI, is under its intense scrutiny. Meanwhile, it is unlikely that murdered children like little Antonio Santiago will ever catch Holder’s eye.

Reverse racism is alive and growing in our country, flying in the face of what the leaders of the Civil Rights Movement all those decades ago fought so bravely for: equal rights for all. Martin Luther King, Jr. said, “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.” I think Mr. King would be terribly displeased with those who currently call themselves our leaders.

**Here‘s an update on the Santiago story. Regardless of the outcome, the hypocrisy of the media and the Obama Administration and the consequences for America remain dire.

I’ve recently had the epiphany that the Zimmerman/Martin event was not about race. Not really. Race issues piggy-backed onto the true source of “outrage” and was used to amplify and further demonize the true issue: Legal concealed carry.

Your tragic child murder case isn’t relevant because there was no legal concealed carry involved. Criminals aren’t cause-worthy.

Self-defense, on the other hand, cannot be allowed and will only lead to the destruction of the entire nation as we violently turn on each other and randomly shoot each other over trifles. Preventing this is a cause worth destroying trust between groups and worth vandalizing neighborhoods through riots and worth random attacks on innocent passers-by. Why can’t you crazy right-wingers see this?

    • This is sarcasm – I hope. Because there are a lot of politicians, media figures and “entertainers” who echo those exact sentiments while living in gated communities protected by heavily armed security. “Protection for me, but not for thee” seems to be their creed.

    • Jodi says:

Wow, Chris, you sound remarkably like the race-bating, hypocritical, cherry-picking Eric Holder I described above:

      http://www.politico.com/story/2013/07/eric-holder-stand-your-ground-undermines-public-safety-94294.html#.UeXDukJycU0.twitter

      Coincidence?

BTW: I’ve been accused of being crazy lots of times. It’s my badge of honor. 🙂 So you’re not unique in that assessment. However, the VG blog embraces all faces of Conservatism, so you’re a bit off the mark there. But thanks for playing.

I have a firearm for self defense, and hold a concealed carry permit. If I’m understanding you correctly, we shouldn’t have the right to defend ourselves against an aggressor? And you’re blaming the rioting and violence on gun owners, and removing any sort of personal responsibility from the rioters (who probably have illegal guns – how ironic)? Pardon me, but are you out of your freaking mind? Talk about crazy…but feel free to be a potential victim.

      Molon Labe!

You have put it right. If there were any sense of reason able to get through the cracks of the walls enabled victim syndrome, and just with calm rationale out of human decency, maybe, just maybe, some kind of honor and respect toward our fellow man could be displayed. And then perhaps we realize that majorities of Americans want to live in peace and at peace. The media has become the pimp of left thought while demeaning anyone called conservative, much as those with the IRS rose up as power thugs to use power against those who had opposing thought. History will look at this self serving generation as the generation of woe and hate. Yes, racism is reversed and many are profiled idiot simply because they do not except modern thought and progressive philosophy. Look at Chris post. Totally oppositional and punctuated with condescending insult. There is your typical dishonor to anyone with a conservative mind. It is always a smug, down the nose look of superiority. It is a cancer in debate in this nation.

    • Jodi says:

Thank you, Erin, for your reasoned response. Chris is merely parroting what the Left dictates. I find it beyond coincidental that her/his remark mirrors that of Eric Holder’s words from this afternoon: that self defense is dangerous. That is the wackiest idea I’ve heard in quite some time. No personal responsibility; blame your behavior on anyone but yourself. That’s not a message I will ever embrace.

  • ALman says:

I’ll be as precise as I can about this, otherwise I might get myself in trouble. I’m not a boxer, nor matial arts, or any other trained specialist in physical combat. I’m older than Holder and, most likely, my phsical condition isn’t as strong as his. Nevertheless, I’d like nothing better than the two of us, and just the two of us, meet. No weapons. When we would part, I wonder what is ideas about self-defense would be? This man wouldn’t last 5 minutes on the streets.

  • ALman says:

With regards to your article, I know that I’ve heard it implied or stated in an off-hand manner that crime against is “justified” because of their past injustices against minorities. Consider this from the lips of Samantha Powers, the woman about to become our next Amassador to the U.N. “We need: a historical reckoning with crimes committed, sponsored, or permitted by the United States.” Need I quote more?

How long must we listen to this litany about our country? Moreover, how lon are we going to tolerat it coming from so-called leaders of our country? These litanies keep feeding the notion that the present has to keep paying for the past. So, outrage at Martin/Zimmerman incident, ho-hum over ones when whites are the victims, unless, of course, it’s a slow news day.

  • Richard says:

I have to take issue with the idea of “reverse racism.” Racism is racism is racism. It doesn’t matter which way it goes; and yes, many minorities appear to hate white folk. It’s still just plain old racism.

  • ALman says:

    Agreed, Richard.

racism: the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, esp. so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races.
    • prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on such a belief.

However, in application, we so often hear: prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against blacks by whites. It’s as though this has re-defined the term.

Let’s take it to the moment of truth, and not pedantic dialogue. A thug has you and/or your loved ones in a situation of choice. Him or you. I’ll bet a bag of doughnuts you’ll shoot to kill or die regretting you didn’t have a weapon.

  • Chris says:

Note to self: Must learn to use sarc tags.

  • Truth says:

“Just days after Sherry West told police her 13 month old was shot and killed by two black teens, West’s 21 year old daughter went to police to tell them that she suspected her mother may have killed her infant brother. Ashley Glassey told CBS News in March, that her mother has serious mental health issues. These include a diagnosis of bi-polar with accompanying schizophrenic tendencies. West also talked with the media about how she was removed from her mother’s care at the age of 8, because of abuse and neglect in the home. Immediately after the shooting, Glassey said West began asking questions about how long it would take her to collect the insurance money. West’s daughter also told both media and police that her mother made conflicting statements to her, regarding the child’s death – including different stories about who was shot first. West’s inconsistencies and suspicious behavior caused her own daughter to tell police and reporters that she suspected her mother was not telling the truth about how the infant was killed. CBS News reported several days later that police had not followed up with Glassey, nor had they taken her statement. A follow-up call by the press to the police, was never returned.”

  • RealityCheck says:

Turns out you are an idiot and it was the white mother killed the white baby. How do you like them apples?

    • Jodi says:

Turns out you didn’t read the entire article. Last paragraph. Update. Thanks for playing.

    • Jodi says:

Here ya go. Next time, try reading the whole thing, not just the headline; it works better that way:

“**Here‘s an update on the Santiago story. Regardless of the outcome, the hypocrisy of the media and the Obama Administration and the consequences for America remain dire.”

  • Still Learning says:

I agree that the news media are scumbag slimeballs, but in these two cases, you are comparing apples to oranges. Zimmerman killed Martin. That is an undisputed fact; the killer confessed. In the case of the murdered baby, the teens are the ALLEGED perpetrators. (New developments could get them off the hook or include them in some kind of murder-for-hire scheme, or, at trial they could be found guilty, but until then they are innocent. As you know, that’s how we do in America; innocent until proven guilty.)
Zimmerman, although there was no doubt that he was the killer, was not charged with anything for days (weeks?) after the incident; the alleged baby killers were arrested in 48hrs. So on one hand you have a killer walking free and on the other hand you have two murder suspects who were immediately arrested. Which seems like the more newsworthy story?
(If it turns out the parents were the real killers and the black teens were framed, I’m sure we’ll be hearing more about this though.)

    • Jodi says:

Thank you for your perspective, Still. Your point is valid. To be clear, I believe that Zimmerman was only arrested after pressure from race hustlers like Al Sharpton, thus the delay. Their was never enough evidence to prove him guilty. Whether or not he got away with murder is another debate.

Wouldn’t it be nice if we’d stop pigeon-holing people, and value all lives? But then, what would the race-baiters have to do?

There have been many attacks on whites by blacks in response to the verdict, blatant racism fanned by the Sharptons of our nation…most of which the media never even bothered reporting. Which is my point. Sad.
