Huma Abedin has all but vanished from Hillary Clinton’s campaign. After the news broke on Friday that the email treasure trove the FBI wanted to get into had come off of Anthony Weiner’s computer, his estranged wife suddenly disappeared from Hillary’s side, with the New York Times reporting that Huma is back in New York, working out of the Brooklyn outpost of the campaign.

Well, about that….
Breaking: FBI to scour 650,000 emails on Anthony Weiner's laptop; thousands may be tied to Clinton's server https://t.co/de3Y3Nqr6E

That is NOT a small number.
Federal agents are preparing to scour roughly 650,000 emails contained on the laptop of former Rep. Anthony Weiner to see how many relate to a prior probe of Hillary Clinton’s email use, as metadata on the device suggests there may be thousands sent to or from the private server that the Democratic nominee used while she was secretary of state, according to people familiar with the matter.
The review will take weeks at a minimum to determine whether those messages are work-related emails between Huma Abedin, a close Clinton aide and the estranged wife of Mr. Weiner, and State Department officials; how many are duplicates of emails already reviewed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation; and whether they include either classified information or important new evidence in the Clinton email probe, which FBI officials call “Midyear.”
Oh, it gets better.
The latest development began in early October when New York-based FBI officials notified Andrew McCabe, the bureau’s second-in-command, that while investigating Mr. Weiner for possibly sending sexually charged messages to a minor, they had recovered a laptop with 650,000 emails. Many, they said, were from the accounts of Ms. Abedin, according to people familiar with the matter.
Those emails stretched back years, these people said, and were on a laptop that both Mr. Weiner and Ms. Abedin used and that hadn’t previously come up in the Clinton email probe. Ms. Abedin said in late August that the couple were separating.
The FBI had searched the computer while looking for child pornography, people familiar with the matter said, but the warrant they used didn’t give them authority to search for matters related to Mrs. Clinton’s email arrangement at the State Department. Mr. Weiner has denied sending explicit or indecent messages to the teenager.
If you are keeping track, that Andrew McCabe that the New York FBI agents talked to? Yeah, that’s the same Andrew McCabe whose wife got a nice chunk of money from Terry McAuliffe because she was running as a Democrat in Virginia. Do you think maaaaaaaybe McCabe had some motivation to keep this all hush-hush? I guess we’ll never know…
Regardless, the FBI is now getting a warrant to actually look at all the emails that were on the laptop. Anthony Weiner is reportedly cooperating with the FBI. Anyone else think that he is capable of selling out Hillary Clinton to save his own sorry butt? Anyone? Bueller?
And James Comey really had no choice. Despite the Clinton campaign and Senator Harry Reid screaming about “interference” with the election, can you imagine what would have happened if Comey had sat on this information until after the election?
The question really is… is Huma willing to sing like a bird to keep herself out of prison? The FBI says that she is “cooperating” with the investigation, which is a good idea because she could be looking at some serious consequences, including prison time. She gave a sworn deposition in June that she had turned over all the emails she had. Huma claims that she has no idea how those emails got on her husband’s laptop. My husband, who is an IT professional, laid out a few different scenarios to me on how that could have occurred. One especially interesting scenario is that if the shared laptop had separate profiles for the two of them. Huma may not have thought there were any emails on there that weren’t already on her other devices. But when the FBI got a hold of it for the Weiner investigation, they may have found all these emails – because on a separate system with separate backups, those emails never got cleaned “with a cloth” or with BleachBit. (My husband also wants to know how old that laptop is, because he’s thinking about all the technical details.) Whatever Huma has on there, it was stored separately from Hillary’s bathroom server. That laptop may have this investigation’s equivalent of the missing 18 minutes of the Watergate tapes, and the FBI is getting a warrant to read them.
Huma may loathe Weiner right now and be willing to watch him twist in the wind, but she has a child with him. We could be finding out very soon if she loves her son more than she loves Hillary Clinton, by seeing which one she will abandon first. Is she willing to risk prison to save Hillary?
