CNN Analyst Says Trump is Making a Comeback. Yes, THAT CNN. [VIDEO]

I don’t think Hell froze over on Saturday, but I think it may have seen a few snow flurries. You see, a political analyst at CNN wrote that “Trump may be making a comeback.”

CNN? Yes, that CNN.

Citing the latest Monmouth poll, CNN’s Julian Zelizer noticed Trump’s approval rating has jumped to 42%. Moreover, the newest Rasmussen poll finds a Trump approval bump of 49%.

Who knew? After all, just in the past few days we’ve watched the turbulence surrounding the FISA memo. We’ve also seen the stock market fall 666 points (and if you take the Book of Revelations literally, that number might seem ominous).

So what gives?

Well, says Zelizer, in part, it’s the economy, stupid. The GOP tax cut really cranked up the wind in GOP sails, and consumer confidence is high. But Americans are also feeling pretty good about the nation right now: they’re more confident in our military strength, and they feel more secure in safety from terrorism. And on immigration, Trump played 4D political chess with the Democrats and forced them into checkmate.

But then there’s the Democrats themselves. Hillary Clinton may have written the book What Happened, but her party still can’t figure it out. As Matthew Continetti wrote in the Washington Free Beacon:

What they can’t escape is identity politics—the slicing and dicing of the electorate by race, sex, orientation, gender identity, country of origin, dietary preference, what have you. Meanwhile President Trump has run off with the most saleable of the Democrats’ old issues and the foundations of their coalition. You’d think they’d notice.

However, I think there’s much more to Trump’s resurgence, and it’s because lots of Americans are sick of being talked down to like they’re children. They’re tired of having their beliefs insulted by their self-appointed societal betters. And they’re rebelling.

They don’t want to hear George Will’s pretzel logic on positive economic news, in which he claims the good news is really bad news. You’re just too dim to figure it out:

Americans consider deferral of gratification unnatural, which it is. Time was, however, thrift was considered a virtue. People sat at kitchen tables, calculating how to bring their outlays, for living and retiring, into alignment with their incomes. But eventually many people decided: This is no fun. Instead, let’s disconnect enjoyable spending decisions from tiresome facts about resources, thereby living the way the federal government does.

Yes, George, let’s just assume that Americans are like little children with their money. Because they’re not as smart as you are.

Moreover, they resent it when a TIME writer accuses the President of using “grieving families for politics” in his State of the Union address. They also know that if Obama had told the same stories, with tears in his eyes, that writer would’ve been gushing praise.

Americans roll their eyes when Watergate journalist Carl Bernstein fears that “These could be the darkest days since Joe McCarthy,” as he recently told Jake Tapper when discussing the FISA memo. We have a president who believes he is above the law, frets Bernstein.

Then there’s “Morning Joe” Scarborough on MSNBC. Conservatives hate him to begin with, and then he called Devin Nunes an ignorant yokel on Twitter:

In retrospect, Nunes would have been better off remaining a dairy farmer instead of coming to Congress and wrecking the US House Intel committee.

Way to go, Joe! Elitist, much?

And finally, there’s HBO’s Bill Maher, who pretty much insulted anyone who supported Donald Trump:

Yes, Maher maligned “Trumpsters” with every cheap shot possible. Believe what Trump promised about the Wall? You’re a SUCKER. Written in a cornfield, you hick. Worried about illegal immigration? You hate foreigners. You won’t use unisex bathrooms, and you vomit at the sight of gay men. So sit down and shut up, you gun-loving, racist, paranoid, ignorant bigots.

But go right ahead, you comics and media types. Continue to insult the good folks who care about things like the military, and security, and who are happy to see a bit more money in their pockets. Keep pissing them off, and when 2020 rolls around, it will be payback time once again. And you know what they say about payback, don’t you? It’s a bitch.
