The Best People! Bannon and Trump’s Cabinet?

Trump’s 2016 campaign promised to do better and clean up the mess in Washington DC. And Draining the Swamp was a favorite. Because to the Trump followers he was Picking the Best People. They were not going to be Washington Insiders and would clean up the mess and get industry back to small town America. The reality is not quite so pretty.  In fact, it seems like a new swamp is being created. Biggest clue is Steve Bannon. He is rapidly becoming more and more toxic (as if his making Breitbart into an Alt-right playground wasn’t bad enough). Bannon is toxic like a…..swamp. The New York Post interviewed Trump about Bannon and his response is here:

Washington’s rumor mill is working overtime on the fate of presidential aide Steve Bannon, who is said to be at the center of the rampant White House infighting. When I asked the president Tuesday afternoon if he still has confidence in Bannon, who took over the campaign in mid-August, I did not get a definitive yes.

“I like Steve, but you have to remember he was not involved in my campaign until very late,” Trump said. “I had already beaten all the senators and all the governors, and I didn’t know Steve. I’m my own strategist and it wasn’t like I was going to change strategies because I was facing crooked Hillary.”

Somewhere some Hollywood writers are doing the happy dance. But wait there is still more: Bannon and the Trump family are not getting along.  Ivanka and Jared are not fond of the bloviating screenwriter.

Spicer’s rather ignorant speech about gas and Nazis was a perfect SNL skit. Yes Spicer Hitler used gas against his own people you stupid little putz. However, it is not a reason for sustained outrage. Spicer says stupid stuff and is a bad choice for the face of the White House. Really bad choice deserving mockery. However, Spicer did apologize for being a fool.

The Associated Press has a few more examples here:

One of the people Trump hired for the White House was working as a foreign agent while advising him during the election. His campaign chairman caught the Justice Department’s attention for similarly surreptitious work. And a third campaign adviser was reportedly surveilled by the FBI as part of an investigation into whether or not he was a Russian spy.

Those people would be Michael Flynn, Paul Manafort and Carter Page. To his credit, there were some excellent choices: Mad Dog Mattis and Nikki Haley. I am hoping that this administration can learn from early mistakes and grow stronger.  Hoping.

Well, I did a lot of volunteer work for Cruz in sweet home Iowa and loathed Trump. I did vote for him over the shrew queen, but I did not expect him to be a conservative, just a lesser evil. Some of his appointments have been excellent, some not so much.

Trump has no core beliefs beyond what feeds his narcissism. I doubt he learns much as he rolls along. Its going to be a rocky road over his term, but then its always a rocky road when so much power is given to the prima donnas in DC. Old Ben was wise, its only a republic if we can keep it generation to generation. Woodrow Wilson started us down the rocky road to a totalitarian state. I fear for my grandchildren.

Sorry, but you haven’t really said what it is about Bannon that bothers you. Calling Breitbart an Alt-right publication doesn’t really clear things up either. Could you possibly be a little more specific on the issue of Bannon. I hear plenty of accusations, but not many details.
I do agree that Spicer is not a very strong front man, and am concerned with the people our President is surrounding himself with. Two of Pres Trump’s closest advisors are said to be his daughter & son-in-law. Both life long Democrats. Hard to run a Republican White House with Liberal advisors. Placing Hasset, a supporter of higher immigration levels & outsourcing of American jobs, as Chairman of the Council of Economic advisors seems a little left of center, as well.

Bannon is like the Michael Moore (with less talent than that slug) of the right. He is divisive and vicious (see threats to the Republicans who did not support Trumpcare) and is frankly all the things Trump said he was trying to rid Washington of: cronyism and dirty dealings.

The problem with Bannon is rather simple to understand. He wants to push his agenda but pisses off everyone he needs to convince. I agree that allowing his daughter and son in law into the WH is a disturbing sign.

A Cruz administration would have hit the ground running and be running rings around the DC establishment from day one. Too bad idiots on the right did not see this. Cruz scared the left and the rinos. The rinos saw Trump as controllable,,,, fools.
