Amanda Marcotte is totally over engagement rings, so no one should have them anymore

Destroying things like marriage, the traditional family, chivalry, and romance is a favorite feminazi pastime. It doesn’t really matter what women actually want, because feminazis all know better than the idiots who might actually still want a chivalrous man and a nuclear family one day. It also doesn’t matter that women are more miserable and unhappy now than they have been in decades, because feminazis are doing this all for our own good, duh.

Meanwhile, leading feminazi troll Amanda Marcotte is gleeful to find out that some women are helping to pay for their own engagement rings. For most conservatives, this probably falls under the “who gives a damn?” category, because conservatives generally don’t care what people do in their private lives. But libtard feminazis like Amanda Marcotte love turning being a stuck-up, nosy know-it-all into a profession, so that makes this Very Important News.

If nothing else, one might think that making engagement more of an equal endeavor would pacify control-obsessed feminists like Marcotte. But of course, engagement leads to weddings, remember? So we just need to do away with the whole thing.

The attempts of Americans to reconcile their infatuation with traditional wedding rituals and the realities of their daily lives are an endlessly amusing exercise in cognitive dissonance. Sure, let your dad give you away, even though you haven’t answered to his paternal authority for more than a decade. Why not have a bachelorette party decorated with penises, as if we’re teasing a virginal bride who has never seen one in real life? And, yes, the man should be responsible for buying that engagement ring, even though his wife-to-be makes more money.

… What all this demonstrates is that it’s high time to end the tradition of the engagement ring, along with other wedding rituals that are built on the assumption that a bride is dependent and virginal. The entire discourse about women having to “snag” a husband and obtain expensive totems of his commitment to hold him in place before the actual wedding is offensive to both genders. Women provide for themselves now. Instead of hanging onto these sexist, retrograde wedding traditions, why not make up some new ones that reflect our modern era? The new tradition of announcing your engagement through a photo shoot that emphasizes your already-enjoyable life together is a lot more cost-effective and reflects what people’s actual romantic lives are like better than an old-fashioned engagement ring. More of that, please.

So, because Amanda Marcotte doesn’t like the tradition of giving an engagement ring to a woman, it should be ended — along with other unnamed wedding rituals? It matters not at all that many women want their dad to walk them down the aisle and give them away, and it has nothing to do with “paternal authority”, or that bachelorette parties today are often identical to bachelor parties. Is she also going to complain about men being “teased” by strippers, as if he’s never seen a naked woman before? (Probably not.) What’s important is not whether women enjoy or desire these traditions. What’s important is whether or not Amanda Marcotte deems them acceptable. In modern feminazi-land, women aren’t supposed to think for themselves, after all. Marcotte has even let us know how real women should think and what they should care about. Us womenfolk should sit down and let the men — err, the “feminists” — do the heavy thinking for us.

And they wonder why so many modern women are rejecting feminism.

“because conservatives generally don’t care what people do in their private lives” … Unless it’s about same sex couples getting married or entering into another type of legally recognized union, a woman and/or her partner seeking medical advice or a medial procedure to terminate a pregnancy, providing a urinalysis to see if you’re using alcohol or drugs prior to getting any type of government assistance such as food stamps or supported housing, or someone with a different viewpoint about the role of an engagement ring plays in someone’s private relationship.

Generally, I’m not convinced conservatives “don’t care what people do in their personal lives.”

You know me personally and I call bullsh*t on your comment. 🙂

I could not possibly care less about what two consenting adults do in their private life,

The only thing the government should be doing is civil unions. Marriage is in the domain to the churches.

Abortion is on the consince of the woman and her partner. They shoudl have access to it- however, they should know EXACTLY what they are doing, in graphic detail.

And welfare and all it’s varients is paid for out of the public purse. Dispensing those funds responsibly is the duty of those in office.

All but one of those directly affects others’ lives. Try again.

I echo Roz’s sentiment above. Why should Ms. Marcotte decude what’s best for all women?? Isn’t feminism about being an informed, empowered woman? Oh, wait, not anymore. Now it’s about being a judgemental shrew and finding fault with women who dare to “conform” to traditional norms. Well no thanks, that is why many smart, powerful women reject the feminist label.

The missus runs an entire division of one of the largest media companies in the country. She also likes to cook, take care of her family and love me and our marriage. She also totally rejects angry little people like Amanda and their contempt for traditional values, marriage and family.

In my many discourses with the lovely Miss Marcotte — who hates my guts I should add — I have found that my habit of using the honorific “Miss Marcotte” absolutely annoyed her the most. 🙂

It is rather odd that someone who never wants to get married — even though she has been living with her boyfriend for several years — sees it as her place to tell people how they should get married.
