Trump issued a detailed memorandum last night in which he directed all U.S. intelligence agencies to cooperate fully with Attorney General William Barr’s spy gate investigation. Furthermore, the memo orders Barr to declassify such information or intelligence as he deems suitable and make it public. Adam Schiff is here to tell us the memo is ‘un-American.’
“Rep. Adam B. Schiff (D-Calif.), who as chairman of the House Intelligence Committee leads one of the ongoing congressional investigations of Trump, called the action “un-American.” Trump and Barr, Schiff said in a statement Thursday night, are conspiring to “weaponize law enforcement and classified information against their political enemies.””
It took me about fifteen minutes to stop laughing at Schiff’s comment. First of all, what exactly is in this new memo, which you can read in full here, from Trump?
“”Today, at the request and recommendation of the Attorney General of the United States, President Donald J. Trump directed the intelligence community to quickly and fully cooperate with the Attorney General’s investigation into surveillance activities during the 2016 Presidential election,” the White House released in a statement Thursday evening. “The Attorney General has also been delegated full and complete authority to declassify information pertaining to this investigation, in accordance with the long-established standards for handling classified information. Today’s action will help ensure that all Americans learn the truth about the events that occurred, and the actions that were taken, during the last Presidential election and will restore confidence in our public institutions.””
Specifically the declassification part reads as follows:
“Sec. 2. Declassification and Downgrading. With respect to any matter classified under Executive Order 13526 of December 29, 2009 (Classified National Security Information), the Attorney General may, by applying the standard set forth in either section 3.1(a) or section 3.1(d) of Executive Order 13526, declassify, downgrade, or direct the declassification or downgrading of information or intelligence that relates to the Attorney General’s review referred to in section 1 of this memorandum. Before exercising this authority, the Attorney General should, to the extent he deems it practicable, consult with the head of the originating intelligence community element or department. This authority is not delegable and applies notwithstanding any other authorization or limitation set forth in Executive Order 13526.”
Where in there does it suggest that Barr is going to declassify everything and the kitchen sink without regard to the consequences? Nowhere that I can see.
But Adam Schiff, who, for the last two plus years has been working to weaponize every agency and Congress against Trump because Queen Hillary did not win her throne, is throwing a snit fit.
While Trump stonewalls the public from learning the truth about his obstruction of justice,
Trump and Barr conspire to weaponize law enforcement and classified information against their political enemies.
The coverup has entered a new and dangerous phase.

This is the same Adam Schiff who is now trying to tell us that Mueller bungled the collusion investigation. This is the same Adam Schiff who still believes the Steele Dossier is credible.

Ouch.
What Schiff is essentially saying here is that Barr will act improperly and declassify the wrong things in a rush to protect Trump. What Schiff is also implying is that the DOJ/FBI etc were never weaponized prior to Trump. Does anyone remember the Obama Administration spying on the media? I do, and this report, published yesterday, from CJR about the extent of the DOJ surveilling the media during Obama’s tenure is quite the read.
Furthermore, all the information we now know concerning the FISA warrants, Bruce and Nellie Ohr’s role with Christopher Steele, Brennan, Clapper, and Comey’s actions evidently don’t rise to Schiff’s definition of ‘weaponizing law enforcement.’
Far too many at the DOJ and FBI played partisan politics for the last twelve years. They got away with it during the Obama Administration but now their chickens are coming home to roost. The investigators who played fast and loose with the law are now being investigated.
No, CBS, Trump didn’t give Barr sweeping or unlimited power. Read the memo again. Did Morning Joe read the memo? No. Otherwise Joe Scarborough wouldn’t proclaim that ‘people will die!’
Meanwhile, Adam Schiff, a man who so desperately wants Trump gone, is pointing fingers of blame at Trump and Barr while willfully ignoring all that happened during the Obama Administration. What doesn’t Adam Schiff want the American public to see?

It should not be solely those people in the FBI, CIA, NSA who should be charged with conspiracy, either against the United States or conspiracy to obstruct justice, but also those in media and in Congress who conspired to do the same things.

Well, admittedly, a lot of folks who have never handled classified (or bothered to learn about it – like, you know, a journalist might) don’t know how precise that wording is. He simply made Barr an authority over that information so that he can override someone wanting to keep it classified.
BTW, one of the prime reasons for NOT classifying something, or for DE-classifying it is …. Well, I’ll let the EO speak for itself:
Sec. 1.7. Classification Prohibitions and Limitations.
(a) In no case shall information be classified, continue to be maintained as classified, or fail to be declassified in order to:
(1) conceal violations of law, inefficiency, or administrative error;
(2) prevent embarrassment to a person, organization, or agency;
(3) restrain competition; or
(4) prevent or delay the release of information that does not require protection in the interest of the national security.
(emphasis added)
